Socio-Economics Overview

The local area will benefit from the placement of the artificial reef, both socially and economically.

The local area currently earns an estimated £1,002,714 per years from scuba diving. The placement of the proposed artificial reef is likely to benefit the local economy by an additional £703,928 per annum.  It should be noted that similar estimates for the Scylla project were reported as representing only a quarter of the amount of additional revenue actually generated.

One of the main drivers of the Sussex Marine Trust is centred on educating people about the marine environment, these efforts will be concentrated in the local area. The local community will benefit through improved communal areas and events associated with the artificial reef.
